The HI3850-100 are high quality reagents that are pre-made, allowing for users to achieve fast and accurate ascorbic acid measurements with the HI3850 chemical test kit. These reagents follow an iodometric titration method to determine ascorbic acid concentration. For determination of ascorbic acid, a reaction in acidic solution occurs with the ascorbic acid in the sample reacting with a potassium iodate reagent. The reaction generates triiodide that is converted to iodide ions while ascorbic acid is present, when all ascorbic acid has been consumed the triiodide produced reacts with the starch indicator creating a blue-black color. The number of drops of reagent used to achieve this color can be multiplied by 10 to give a concentration of ascorbic acid in mg/L. These reagents are designed to be used with samples that have an expected ascorbic acid range of 10 to 200 mg/L ascorbic acid.
