Hanna Instruments offers a wide variety of pH electrodes that are designed for many different applications. The type of glass used for sensing pH, bulb shape, body material, type of junction, type of reference and electrolyte used are just some of the design considerations. The HI1230Y pH electrode for field uses general purpose (GP) glass, spherical bulb, polyetherimide (PEI) body, single ceramic frit, and double junction. Low Temperature Glass Formulation Low Temperature (LT) glass, as the name implies, is a glass formulation that is used for low-temperature samples and it allows for fast stabilization and more accurate results at lower temperatures. The HI1230Y is suitable to use with samples that measure from -5 to 70°C. Spherical Glass Tip The spherical bulb is for general purpose use. Other tip shapes include conic for penetration and flat tip for surface measurements. PEI Body The body of the HI1230Y is composed of polyetherimide (PEI) resin. The PEI body is suitable for a wide range of applications and excels in field measurements due to its durability. The shielding around the spherical glass tip minimizes breakage due to accidental bumping or dropping of the electrode. PEI plastic is a high-quality plastic that is chemically resistant to many aggressive chemicals. Single Ceramic Double Junction Reference The HI1230YB is a double junction design. pH electrodes are available as single junction or double junction. See below for a complete description of the differences. The junction also known as a salt bridge is necessary component of the electrical circuit. The movement of ions must flow through the junction for a steady reading. The outer reference has a single ceramic frit. The ceramic is a porous material that is easily fused with the glass body and has a similar expansion coefficient. A single ceramic junction has a flow rate of 15-20 ?L/hour. Other junction types are available with higher flow rates and made with different materials. BNC + RCA Connector The HI1230Yhas a BNC + RCA connector. This type of connector is unique as it is a BNC electrode that no longer requires the separate HI7662 temperature sensor. The RCA part of the connector incorporates an NTC thermistor temperature sensor. These types of connectors tend to be proprietary. Compatible Products Open or Close You can utilize a HI1230Y pH electrode with Hanna products that use a BNC pH electrode with the HI7662 Temperature Probe.
