Workflow checklist

Build the equipment list from the method, not from a generic laboratory checklist

ISO 7218:2024 covers general requirements and guidance for food-chain microbiological examinations. The exact equipment still depends on the organism, sample, reference method and your laboratory quality system.

Workflow checklist

Map the complete workflow before ordering

01

Sample receipt and preparation

Define sample containers, aseptic handling, homogenization or dilution steps and the consumables named by the method.

02

Culture and incubation

List media, vessels and the time and environmental conditions required by the selected method. Incubator capability must be checked model by model.

03

Detection or enumeration

Specify whether the method uses detection, colony counting, confirmation or another endpoint, then list the observation and recording equipment it calls for.

04

Sterilization and waste handling

Separate sterilization, decontamination and waste steps. Load type and procedure determine the equipment requirement; purchasing an autoclave alone does not validate a process.

05

Quality records

Include equipment identification, maintenance, calibration or verification records required by the laboratory system and the applicable test method.

Send these details with the equipment list

  • Reference method or internal SOP
  • Sample type and expected daily batch size
  • Preparation, incubation and counting steps
  • Required consumable formats and pack quantities
  • Sterilization or decontamination requirement
  • Required certificates, records and delivery date

Common microbiology equipment questions

Does buying equipment labelled for microbiology make a laboratory ISO 7218 compliant?

No. ISO 7218 addresses laboratory practices and technical requirements across the examination process. Equipment is one part of a wider method, facility, competence and quality system.

Can ManaEsse quote the workflow as one list?

Yes. Send the method or requisition list and quantities. We can combine catalog products and clearly mark anything that needs sourcing beyond the current catalog.

Are culture media in this category?

The category primarily groups bench equipment and microbiology accessories. Media and reagents are listed under consumables; the related links below keep the workflow connected.

Official standard reference

The workflow framing is based on ISO’s current published edition. Access to the full standard is required to apply its detailed requirements.

ManaEsse does not certify a laboratory or validate a microbiological method through product supply. Confirm every equipment requirement against the method and your quality system.
