Spectrophotometer

Visible and UV-Vis spectrophotometers from DLAB — the SP-V and SP-UV series (SP-V1000, SP-UV1100, SP-UV2102, SP-XUV5101) for absorbance measurement in QC, water testing and research labs. Request a fast quotation from ManaEsse X.

Spectrophotometer selection guide

Start with the analytical technique—not the word “spectrometer”

Define the method, wavelength region, sample format and required records before comparing instruments. UV-Vis, visible, atomic absorption and chromatography are different techniques and should not be treated as interchangeable catalog names.

Spectrophotometer selection guide

Five decisions that narrow the instrument shortlist

01

Technique and method

State whether the method requires visible photometry, UV-Vis absorbance, wavelength scanning or another analytical technique. Send the method or standard when one controls the measurement.

02

Wavelength and optical design

List the required wavelength range and whether routine fixed-wavelength work or scanning is needed. Single- and double-beam designs handle blanks and baselines differently, so compare the actual workflow.

03

Spectral bandwidth

Bandwidth affects the ability to distinguish neighboring spectral features as well as signal, measurement time and background. Use the method requirement rather than assuming narrower is always better.

04

Sample and accessories

Specify cuvette material, path length, sample volume, temperature needs and any multi-cell or flow accessory. UV measurements require sample holders suitable for the intended wavelength range.

05

Software and records

Describe quantitation, kinetics, scan, export, user-control and audit-trail needs. Software and compliance capabilities are model- and license-specific and must be verified on the current documentation.

Include this in a spectrophotometer request

  • Method, analyte and measurement mode
  • Visible or UV-Vis wavelength range
  • Required bandwidth or resolution
  • Cuvette, sample volume and accessories
  • Software, export and record requirements
  • Quantity, installation and required-by date

Common spectrophotometer questions

Is a spectrometer the same as a spectrophotometer?

“Spectrometer” is a broader instrument term. For purchasing, name the actual technique and method—such as visible or UV-Vis absorbance—because wavelength range, optics, detector, accessories and data output differ.

Should I choose the widest wavelength range?

Not automatically. The instrument must cover the method and provide the required optical performance, accessories and records. Paying for a broader range does not replace method suitability.

Can a UV-Vis instrument replace atomic absorption or HPLC?

No general equivalence should be assumed. These are different analytical techniques with different sample handling and measurement principles. Quote the technique named by the method.
