Buyer guide

Choose the meter, sensor and standards as one measurement system

For a Thai QC laboratory or production team, a useful quotation names the meter, compatible sensor and calibration supplies together. Start with the sample and acceptance requirement, then compare range, uncertainty or accuracy specifications, and the records your method needs.

Buyer guide

Five decisions to make before comparing models

01

Parameters, units and expected range

List pH and conductivity separately, including the expected range in µS/cm or mS/cm. If reporting TDS, record the conversion factor required by your method. A conductivity-derived TDS result does not identify individual dissolved substances.

02

Match the sample to the sensor

Give the sample type, temperature and container dimensions, plus the existing meter and connector if replacing a probe. A milk sample, a viscous product and low-conductivity water can need different sensor designs. Confirm the exact electrode and meter combination before ordering.

03

A catalog example: HI98130

The Hanna HI98130 listed in our catalog combines pH, EC, TDS and temperature. Its EC range is 0.00 to 20.00 mS/cm with 0.01 mS/cm resolution. That resolution equals 10 µS/cm, so a buyer needing finer low-conductivity readings should specify that requirement before choosing this high-range tester.

04

Budget for the calibration supplies

Choose buffers that cover the expected sample pH and that the meter recognizes. Include the required conductivity standard, electrode storage and cleaning solutions, and replacement-sensor needs. Ask for lot, expiry and certificates where required; an included starter sachet is not a recurring supply plan.

05

Field use, records and receipt

Specify portable or benchtop use, cable length, power and the output format you need. Ask the quotation to separate the instrument, sensor, standards and any calibration service. On receipt, check the model and kit suffix, included items and relevant certificates against the order.

Include this in the quote request

  • Sample or process, expected pH and conductivity range, and measurement temperature
  • Required resolution and accuracy specification, units and any TDS conversion factor
  • Existing meter model, sensor part number and connector, or a complete new system
  • Portable or benchtop use, container size, cable length and data-export needs
  • Buffers, conductivity standards, storage and cleaning solutions; required certificates
  • Quantity, delivery province, required-by date and procurement reference or TOR if used

Common pH and conductivity meter questions

Does 0.01 pH resolution mean ±0.01 pH accuracy?

No. Resolution is the displayed increment. For example, Hanna specifies 0.01 pH resolution and ±0.05 pH accuracy at 25 °C for HI98130. Compare both values and the conditions stated by the manufacturer against your method.

Can one instrument measure both pH and conductivity?

Yes, some models can. HI98130 is one catalog example, but the required ranges and sensor suitability still decide whether it fits. A combined tester does not make every pH electrode or conductivity application interchangeable.

Is a TDS reading the same as a chemical analysis of the water?

No. On a conductivity-based tester, TDS is calculated using a conversion factor. Document that factor when comparing results across instruments; use the relevant analytical method when you need the concentration of a particular substance.

Which buffers and accessories should appear in the quotation?

Request buffers that bracket the sample range and match the meter settings, the specified EC standard where needed, and suitable storage and cleaning solutions. State required pack sizes and certificates. Confirm the exact kit contents rather than assuming a meter includes a full year of consumables.

Official selection references

The HI98130 example follows its manufacturer specification. The buffer-selection references explain calibration range and solution care; the quoted sensor and method still determine the final setup.

This guide helps define a quotation. It does not replace your laboratory method, quality procedure or the current instructions for the selected instrument and sensor.
